Traffic Assessment & Swept Path Analysis

Show planners your site can be safely accessed and built

Access and construction traffic are routinely raised by Irish planning authorities and road engineers when assessing solar farm applications. Planners need to see that HGVs delivering panels, mounting structures, inverters and substation equipment can enter and leave the site safely, without overrunning verges or blocking the public road.

We prepare swept path analysis drawings showing the body envelope and wheel tracks of the design vehicle through the site entrance, along internal access tracks and at turning areas. These drawings show clearly whether the proposed entrance geometry works, or where bellmouth radii, carriageway widening or passing bays are needed.

Our traffic assessment support includes: - Swept path analysis for rigid HGVs, articulated vehicles and other agreed design vehicles - Site entrance layout and visibility splay (sightline) drawings - Internal access track and turning area checks - Construction traffic estimates and delivery routing - Inputs to Construction Traffic Management Plans (CTMP)

We align the drawings with the road authority's requirements — local authority standards for local and regional roads, DMURS in urban areas, and TII standards where national roads are affected — and coordinate with your planning consultant so the traffic information is consistent with the rest of the application.

What We Provide

Vehicle swept path analysis drawings
Site entrance and bellmouth layout checks
Visibility splay (sightline) drawings
Internal access track and turning area checks
Construction traffic estimates and routing
Inputs to Construction Traffic Management Plans

Suitable For

Ground-mounted solar farms with new or upgraded site entrances
Sites accessed from narrow local or regional roads
Projects where planners have requested swept path or access details
Responses to Further Information requests on traffic or access
Battery storage and substation projects requiring large equipment deliveries
Construction Traffic Management Plan preparation

Typical Deliverables

  • Swept path analysis drawings (PDF & DWG)
  • Site entrance and sightline drawing
  • Short traffic and access note

Timeline

1–2 weeks

From receipt of complete site information to final delivery. Expedited delivery available — contact us to discuss your programme.

Why It Matters

Road safety and access are some of the most common reasons for Further Information requests on solar farm applications in Ireland. Submitting swept path and sightline drawings with your application shows the road authority that the site can be safely accessed during construction and operation, and avoids weeks of delay later in the process.

How It Works

1

Site Information

You send us the site layout, proposed entrance location, topographic survey (where available) and expected delivery vehicles.

2

Design Vehicle

We agree the design vehicle(s) with you — typically a rigid HGV or articulated lorry for panel and equipment deliveries.

3

Swept Path Modelling

We model the vehicle movements through the entrance, along access tracks and at turning areas, showing body envelope and wheel tracks.

4

Access & Sightlines

We prepare the entrance layout with visibility splays and identify any widening or kerb changes needed.

5

Delivery

Final drawings (PDF & DWG) and a short traffic note are delivered, ready for submission with your application.

Frequently Asked Questions

A swept path analysis models the full area a vehicle covers as it turns — including the body overhang and the wheel tracks. It shows whether a site entrance, junction or access track is wide enough for delivery and construction vehicles to manoeuvre without overrunning kerbs, verges or the opposite lane.

It depends on the site and the local authority. Many ground-mounted solar farm applications include swept path drawings, sightline details and a construction traffic note or CTMP, and planning authorities frequently request this information as Further Information when it is missing.

We agree the design vehicle with you based on the expected deliveries. For most solar farms this is a rigid HGV or articulated lorry; larger vehicles can be checked where transformers or other substation equipment are being delivered.

Our core service is swept path analysis, access and sightline drawings and construction traffic inputs. Where the planning authority requires a full TTA, we can provide these drawings and inputs to your appointed traffic consultant — contact us to discuss your project.
